Agricultural gypsum for civil stabilization work is generally specified by consultants to meet the following criteria.
The purity of the gypsum for stabilisation works is expressed as a percentage by weight calcium sulfate dihydrate (CaSO4.2H2O). The gypsum should be at least 80% pure and a finely ground product with at least 90% passing 1 mm sieve.
Then general mixing procedure is as follows:
– Gypsum shall be evenly spread over the area and mixed thoroughly to produce a uniform material. Gypsum shall not be added to the clay and earthfill materials on the embankment.
– The maximum depth of material to be stabilised in borrow shall not exceed 300 mm.
– The minimum rate gypsum shall be added is 3% by dry weight.
– The method proposed to be employed and equipment to be used to add and mix gypsum with embankment fill shall be submitted for approval by the client
