SOA FERTILISER

Sulphate of ammonia (SOA fertiliser) is commonly used as a source of nitrogen and sulphur. SOA releases nitrogen to the soil directly as ammonium NH4+, which is converted by bacteria to nitrate nitrogen. The sulphur is in the sulphate form, so it is immediately available to the plant making it ideal for use in annual cropping programs. Where conditions exist for high nitrogen losses through volatilisation of Urea, SOA can be used more efficiently as its nitrogen is in the ammonium form.

It is ideally suited for use in crops such as canola which have a high sulphur demand, and in grain crops and pastures. SOA is also commonly used in fertiliser blends to supply sulphur.
