Single Super Fertiliser (SSP) used to be generally spread at a hundred weigh per acre (CWT) on pastures. The following helps you convert these imperial fertiliser application rates into metric and compare other various phosphate fertilisers.

    1 CWT/acre  = 125kg/ac of Single (~309kg/ha)

Equivalent phosphorous application rates (125kg/ha) using other available phosphate fertilisers:

    Double Super S5 (0-16-0-5) – 70 kg/ha
    Double Super S9 (0-15-0-9) – 74kg/ha
    Double Super S13 (0-14-0-13) – 78kg/ha
    Double Super S17 (0-13-0-17) – 81kg/ha
    Triple Plus Super S10 (0-18-0-10) – 62kg/ha
    Triple Super (0-21-0-2) – 53kg/ha
    MAP (10-22-0-2) – 50kg/ha
    GoldPhosphate (11-18-0-12) – 61kg/ha
    Tunza Feed (26-10-0-12) – 110kg/ha

    FERTILISER DENSITY AND SIZING

Pacific Fertiliser manufactures and imports fertilisers, from various suppliers. Typical density and sizing data for the more commonly used products are shown in the following table. The fertiliser product bulk densities and specifications can vary between manufacturers/suppliers and over time, and consequently may differ from the table below.

Before spreading it is best to check the product/blend bulk density with a measuring scoop/scale to calibrate your spreader.

    Granular Urea –  0.7-0.8 t/m3 and roughly 92%  2-4mm

    Granular SOA –  0.95-1.15 t/m3 and roughly 70%  2-4mm

    DAP –  0.9-1.1 t/m3 and roughly 94%  2-4mm

    MAP –  0.9-1.1t/m3 and roughly 94%  2-4mm

    SSP –  1.1-1.3t/m3 and roughly 70%  2-4mm, 30% 4-6mm

    TSPS –  1.0-1.2t/m3 and roughly 2-6mm

    MOP –  1.0-1.12t/m3 and roughly 90%  2-4mm

    SOP –  1.2-1.4t/m3 and roughly 90%  2-4mm

The general angle of repose for granular fertiliser storage in bunkers is generally between 29-36 degrees. The angle can vary with fertiliser type, granular size and fertiliser quality.

Note: Once spreading it always best to check the product bulk density by dividing the first load weight via the area covered (GPS) with that 1st load, to calculate the actual kg/ha in the field. This will ensure your spreader calibration is correct for the current task.

  • Aerial Fertiliser Blend

    Aerial Fertiliser Blend

We are spreading a single super equivalent blend today. The aerial grade fertiliser blend consists of soft rock phosphate, sulphur, boron and liquid biology. You can see the biology working on the granules from the mould present before spreading.

  • Low Fertiliser Prices

    Low Fertiliser Prices

Fertiliser prices are at a 10 year low after weak global demand and surplus global stock.

Despite high demand for fertiliser locally and a low Australian Dollar the prices of nitrogen, phosphate and potassium fertiliser remain low compared to previous years. Urea prices have slipped by around $60/t compared to other winter sowing seasons where prices rise with demand. During Jan-May Australia imports 50% we use so there is normally a price rally during this period.

Fertiliser demand is up in the east coast to replenish nutrients from last years high winter rain falls and large grain yields.

  • Big Ships

    Big Ships

Big Ships & Big Hoppers as another self discharging ship rolls into port.

  • MAP Shortage

    MAP Shortage

There is a shortage of MAP and DAP fertiliser on the east coast as growers sow winter grain crops.

More shipments are due to arrive in late May.

  • Clubroot Treatment

    Clubroot Treatment

Quick lime (aka hot lime) is used in preference to normal Ag lime or slaked lime for agriculture applications in some horticultural crops especially for treating clubroot

Clubroot is caused by the pathogen Plasmodiophora brassicae. It affects plants of the brassica family which includes broccoli, broccolini, cauliflower, cabbage, Chinese cabbage, turnips and Brussels sprouts as well as weeds such as wild radish and wild turnip.

Affected plants produce large distorted roots and wilting is often the first above-ground symptom. Plants which are severely infected will be stunted, produce poor quality crops and may die before harvest.

  • Sulphate Sulphur v’s Elemental Sulphur

    Sulphate Sulphur v’s Elemental Sulphur

    Sulphate Sulphur v’s Elemental Sulphur

    • If you apply fertiliser at the time of planting of spring-seeded crops, SO4 fertilisers usually give better results. This is especially true if conditions are such that So oxidation rates are depressed in cool temperatures or in excessive moisture.
    • In starter or row fertilisers, SO4 forms of Sulphur generally give better results.
    • If you apply fertiliser in the fall for spring-seeded crops, differences between So and SO4 sources become less likely and elemental sulfur sources usually have better residual effects.

Elemental sulfur sources are highly acidifying and this can benefit your crops under alkaline soil conditions, but also hurt them under acid conditions. Sulfate sources can be either slightly acidifying or neutral in reaction. Ammonium sulfate is an acid-forming material, whereas potassium sulfate, calcium sulfate & magnesium sulphate are neutral materials and don’t affect soil pH.

Pacific Fertiliser’s Sulphur Bentonite is a granulated elemental sulphur coated in bentonite clay. It is ideal for use in pasture maintenance programs where it can build up a sulphur bank in the soil and release it over time as the pasture grows. In established pastures, having sulphate sulphur available immediately is not necessarily the highest priority in the following applications where the sustained release characteristics of Sulphur Bentonite offer a distinct advantage over sulphate sulphur.

    • in heavily leached soils in high rainfall situations,
    • in course-textured soils, or
    • in situations where fertiliser is applied on a 2-3 yearly basis rather than more regularly

If you are after sulphate sulphur we can supply this in many forms like SOA, SOP, Gypsum and Magnesium sulphate etc
