    Winter Sowing Update

    We have had a great start to the year in most places and as Anzac day approaches we are getting to the pointy end of winter sowing in NSW.

    Fertiliser demand has been strong in 2021, creating pressure on pricing, supply and truck loading slots.

    If you haven’t made your fertiliser choices already, you should start considering your options.

    Pacific Fertiliser can provide fertiliser and soil conditioner options for your next crops.

    Currently Pacific Fertiliser is still carrying limited stock of the following products:
    – Bulk Urea at very competitive pricing
    – Bulk MAP at reasonable pricing given the global price pressure on AP’s
    – Bulk Double Super Phosphate

    Due to limited stock it is first in first served!

    General Dam Construction using Gypsum Stabilisation

    Pacific Fertiliser provides products for large dam and batter construction works.

    For over a decade we have been supplying gypsum and bentonite and other products for dam construction projects in NSW & QLD.  In some areas we are also spreading products before they are incorporated into the soil for stabilisation and other desired outcomes such as dam sealing and rehabilitation.

    Below is a very general example of how gypsum can be used used during dam construction to stabilise the soil to be used in the dam wall.

    Firstly the soil material to be treated before use in the dam wall construction, is placed on a pad via scrappers to a depth of 300mm. Then our bulk gypsum is spread over the soil at a calculated application rate (a general app rate to stabilise soil over the numerous dam projects has been approx 2-3% w/w gypsum per cubic meter of soil).

    Once the gypsum is spread over the pad, the client uses large pulverisers to incorporate and blend the gypsum with the soil down to 300mm. Once blended, the soil mix is removed by scrapers to place it in the desired location for the construction of the dam walls and batters.

    Pacific Fertiliser has worked on stabilisation projects throughout NSW and QLD for both civil and mining industries on dam, batter, rail and road works.

    Note: this is a general example. Gypsum application rates are determined using civil engineers and tested of the actual soil to be used in the wall construction. Gypsum application methods will also change depending on available space and equipment.

    Due to the MAP shortage in Australia this season we have come up with some alternative blends using Double Super Phosphate (DSP). We currently have a fair bit of DSP instock, but it is moving fast.

    50% DSP / 50% DAP    (9-18-0-3)

    35% DSP / 60% DAP / 5% sulphur    (11-18-0-7)

    71% DSP / 29% SOA    (6-11-0-10)

     

    Pacific Fertiliser can also make other tailored fertiliser blends with synthetic and organic fertiliser (inc Guano and Rock Phosphate) products depending on your farming requirements and any fertiliser price/supply constraints similar to 2021/22.

    After 2020 created some unique challenges, it looks like 2021 will be no different. Fertiliser pricing and supply will be similar and it has already seen a lot of movement in the last few months.

    General & specialty fertiliser product pricing has risen quickly due to tight supply, increased shipping costs and increased domestic demand esp with MAP/DAP.

    Mudgee Dolomite (MDL) has closed its mining operations at Mount Knowles.

    The length of the dolomite mine closure is unknown at this stage, but we wish the team a speedy restart.
